Welcome to Calgary's Indigenous Art Cooperative in the historic Mission district, a culturally rich gallery and marketplace dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary talent of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists from across Treaty 7 territory and beyond. Our cooperative represents over 50 Indigenous artists, providing a platform for both established masters and emerging talents to share their artistic vision while maintaining fair trade practices that ensure artists receive proper compensation for their work. Since opening our doors in 2010, we've become Calgary's most trusted destination for authentic Indigenous art, from traditional pieces that honor centuries-old techniques to contemporary works that push creative boundaries while maintaining cultural connections. Our gallery features an ever-changing collection of original paintings, sculptures, beadwork, quillwork, birch bark biting, traditional hide tanning, drum making, and ceremonial regalia created using methods passed down through generations. We're proud to showcase artwork reflecting diverse Indigenous cultures including Blackfoot, Cree, Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut'ina, Dene, and Métis traditions, with each piece accompanied by artist statements explaining the cultural significance and creative process behind the work. Beyond visual art, our cooperative offers handcrafted jewelry featuring traditional designs in sterling silver and semi-precious stones, authentic Pendleton blankets, hand-woven baskets, carved soapstone sculptures, and traditional medicine pouches. We work directly with artists and their families, building relationships based on respect, transparency, and shared commitment to preserving Indigenous art forms while supporting economic independence for Indigenous communities. Our knowledgeable staff, many of whom are Indigenous themselves, provide cultural context and education about the significance of different art forms, helping collectors and gift-buyers make informed, respectful purchases. We regularly host artist demonstrations, traditional storytelling events, and workshops where community members can learn about Indigenous art techniques and cultural practices. Our Mission location also features a small museum-quality exhibit space highlighting historical Indigenous art and artifacts, providing visitors with deeper understanding of the rich artistic heritage of Treaty 7 peoples. All purchases come with certificates of authenticity and artist biographies. Visit us to support Indigenous artists directly while bringing home meaningful art that carries cultural stories and traditional knowledge, connecting you to the rich Indigenous heritage of Southern Alberta.
